OpenVPN between 2k8 and 2k3 not working

Am having a bit of trouble getting OpenVPN working between Server 2k8 and Server 2k3. The VPN server is running Server 2k8 and there are three remote servers running 2k3 that we require to connect via VPN.

I have set up OpenVPN on the server and clients and they all seem to connect OK however I can't access the shares on the client servers. The server sends a DHCP address to the VPN connection on the clients and this works and I can also ping the address of the client from the server.

I have tried it using my laptop as a client with the same config and it connects perfectly and I can browse the shares on my laptop. My laptop is on Vista x64.. I've disabled all the firewalls on the servers to test it.

Is there some sort of compatibility issue between 2k8 and 2k3 using OpenVPN?

I assume you are using v2.1, I noticed a similar issue to yourself recently and found it was due to a change in how the redirects are handled, this change came in on rc17 so depending on the client and server versions you are running this may well impact you. Check the changelog on the OpenVPN website for more details

Personally I'd updated my server recently and noticed no problems until I updated my client and the new redirect was used.

Im using 2.1 RC18 on all the servers.. I might try and give an older RC a go then!

I even tried Hamachi this morning though and that has the same problem!

Argh.. Figured it out! There was a policy assigned on the 2k3 servers that blocked the traffic even though the firewalls were off!
