OpenVPN speeds

I have a 500/500 connection and get about that on speedtest (Hyperoptic).
On my tp-link ax50 I have an openvpn server (it's in the router config). I only get about 10/10 when using the connection on my phone (I get 50/20 on 5g).

I'm just wondering if this is about what you can expect from OpenVPN on a router? I have a spare raspberry pi 4 sat around.. Has anyone had better on a RP4? Just to save me the time of trying to set one up..

OpenVPN is much slower than Wireguard but you should be getting more than 10 Mbps.

FWIW, I get around 35-40 on my OpenVPN setup. That's running on a 2013 HP Microserver mind you.

get seemingly full speed out of openvpn here running a pair of netgate XG-7100's, if its not full speed its not far off. Certainly within run to run variance on speed tests if I turn off split tunneling.

Setup Wireguard if you can on the Pi - find it's much better performance wise.

Thanks for the replies.. I guess I'll try and switch to wireguard for a bit of a boost..
