Opera 10.50 Pre Alpha

The featureset looks great, but I'm not moving to a pre-alpha. I might install once it reaches alpha (I did with 10.0), but I need my browser to be stable.

Might stick it in a VM when I'm back at work after the new year.

I was a long time Opera user till a month ago, when I switched to Chrome because Opera wouldn't stop crashing/website incompatibility was getting on my boobs.

I like this. Especially the interface. It's very streamlined, good looking and is heading in the direction of Firefox and Chrome which are starting to focus on being more minimal, finally breaking the 'Internet Explorer 6 template' which browsers have used until recently.

I'm not sure about the speed...doesn't seem any faster but overall seems to be a step in the right direction.

I am a devout Opera user, have tried Firefox and find it slow and clunky, I have compatability issues with Chrome and well IE doesn't even get a look in.
This new build is nice, i prefer the minimalist look and as someone above said, full windows 7 support is nice.

I've just installed this, and it's surprisingly good for a Pre-Alpha

Just one problem: How do you change the scrolling speed? I've only just got it right for IE, and Firefox, but it's far too fast in Opera.

Long-term Firefox user, but always been fond of Opera. It's a smart program and has the best default feature set of any browser, plus it's really smooth and snappy in operation. Now it seems that the new JS engine is even faster than Chrome's, and blows Fx away. If only Opera had decent extension support, I'd probably use it. Sadly it's always been a minority product, and its marketing is non-existent, so it probably always will be.

Downloaded this last night. Haven't installed it yet. I will give it a go. Hopefully I'll notice a speed improvement. :)

Initial impressions are very good. Looks very sleek and clean. Quite Chrome-esque. I did a Sunspider test on 10.10 and got about 2348ms. Tried the same on the 10.5 pre-alpha and got 320ms!

I test out new versions of all the big 3 browsers just to see where one is better than the other for my daily uses. I have to say Opera 10.5 seems better than previous but still, functionality wise and features does not beat Chrome (now with extensions) or Firefox.

Sunspider results are very good though:

Firefox 3.6 b5: 793ms
Mozilla Minefield (Firefox 3.7 Pre-Alpha): 671ms
Chrome 4.0: 425ms
Opera 10.5 Pre-Alpha: 342ms

FF 3.6b5 and beyond will continue to be my primary browser for as long as extensions like FireFTP, BBCodeExtra, Stylish etc exist on it :p

I got round to installing it, and first impressions are good, however I have found at least one issue.

Middle mouse (hold to scroll up/down by moving the mouse) is gone :(

This is supposed to be Really good. As fast as Chrome on JS sites, new rendering engine. I'll wait for a later release before testing though. Been using Opera for years.

I installed it last night and I must say its a massive improvement over the other releases. Importantly, for a pre-alpha, its quick. No delays when opening tabs or websites. I'm loving the full w7 integration and I've currently got it set as my main browser... Will see how long that lasts! Only gripe so far is that lack of a middle mouse button quick scroll...

Found this too. Bit annoying.

Haven't used Opera on the PC at all, use it a lot on the mobile, but im really liking this one. Seems a lot quicker and snappier than Firefox 3.6b5.

will stick with 10.10 for now.

lately opera has been bloating with loads of things i dont want, but the wand and speed dial are quality.

Just a heads up here but a new version of Opera 10.50 Pre Alpha was released earlier today. A few bug fixes. Unix version now available and support for Video.

I use the speed dial all the time. It's a great feature but I never use the wand. I prefer to use KeePass 2 and to set up customised AutoType profiles which I can activate by pressing Ctrl, Alt + A.
