i think that this build of opera has a memory leak of some sort. basically, after a couple of hours of browsing all of opera will turn black, (like a render-error) and will then some elements of some pages will slowly be re-rendered.

i can use the rest of the computer fine, and none of my other browsers do this (mozilla, IE6) and none of my other programs do this.

when i check in the task manager, opera is using about 200-300MB of ram.

restarting opera will make all of the problems go away untill opera's active cache in the ram gets too large again.

so, is this a memory leak with the program, or might i have some other issue with my computer?

i'm sure that its not my PC, i have a 3.4GHz northwood, 1GB of geil blueram and a MSI 865pe mobo.

I have been using all the versions of Opera since (year)2000, full time it's the only browser i use. I think a version a couple of years ago had a leak but as far as i know there are no reported memory leaks in 8.5. I have been on the net tonight since 5.30pm and at the moment using 22,188k and i hav'nt cleared the cache yet. It might be worth a reinstall just in case something has got corrupted.

I know what you mean Aod, I have 9 tabs open and i'm using about 192k ram. Earlier on (with same webpages loaded) only 160k...hmm...I may try V9.

edit - I just closed everything down and reloaded them and came to 66k. Something's not right :(
