Hey everyone.

Been having a bit of bother with Opera (v9.24) and Spybot (v1.5.1.16). When I ran the Immunise section of Spybot it constantly says I have 176 unprotected cookies within Opera.

Now within Opera I have it so that I have to accept cookies manually for sites I visit. Thinking that this was a bit excessive, but feeling that Spybot knows what it is on about I let it protect them. To my surprise when I went back into Opera and viewed my cookies I had a lot more that have somehow been added... but the catch, they are all for dirty sites?!?

I ran Immunise again and it said that now there were no outstanding cookies. I decided to delete these cookies and run Immunise again, and funnily enough it found these 176 cookies.

I have therefore uninstalled Opera and deleted the profile folder from within Documents & Settings/Application Data. This stores the all the settings and cookies.dat file.

I re-ran Immunise and it worked fine and recognised that Opera was not installed and did not show any options for it. I then did a clean install of Opera and ran the Immunise part of Spybot straight away. Bearing in mind this is a fresh install, no cookies or any files left on the hard drive. YET! Once more, Spybot says there are 176 unprotected cookies, and yes, they are all for dirty/virus sites?!?

I have no idea what is going on here, any help? For the time being I have de-selected the option so that it will leave these cookies alone but I find it strange when I have no cookies that it thinks there are 176???

Thanks!

I've experienced this or something similar. What I think it is, is that Opera and Spybot aren't compatible. I just leave Spybot to block IE and FF cookies and don't bother with Opera. I then set Opera to ask my to set cookies so eventually the sites I use regularly will have cookies set that I want and the dodgy cookies I don't want won't be accepted. :)

Opera from Opera.com and the Spybot from a mirror off the Spybot site. Most probably the Spybot official mirror itself. I try to download programs from the official site itself. :)

Cheers for the reply. :) I think that's probably going to be the easiest thing for me as well, just leave Spybot off Opera cookies.

Where did you get the spybot installer and the opera installer files?

I also downloaded both from the official sites.
