Opera getting worse?

In the last few weeks I've noticed problems with Opera. It just doesn't seem to be able to do... the net.. as well as other browsers. First I noticed it had become totally incapable of displaying Typekit fonts in Wordpress, but now it's slowing down on Youtube and it just can't load a whole FB page. Firefox, on the other hand, has no problem at all.

So what's going on? Do they need their heads knocking together at Opera software or is it just me?

I've tried switching from Firefox (crashes a lot on multiple tabs, I'm talking 30+) to Opera, but there are a few annoyances that just made me go back to Aurora (Firefox Alpha).

It seemed fast enough, though. I used the beta version.

I used to be a huge fan of Opera. But since version 12 it just seemed a bit more.. clunky and slow.

Wen't to Chrome quite a while back and love it. Even with 20+ tabs open it's still really snappy. Wen't back to try Opera a few weeks ago and although I still have a soft spot for it, it just felt too cumbersome.

Use Opera as my main browser and have no issues however I know what you mean about it becoming slower. I have Waterfox installed as well and that is super fast in comparison!

Opera as well on my main Win8 PC,no issues and I've it on my laptop (Win8) as well again no issues, wait a sec got it on my second desktop PC as well(Win8 again) with no issues, verdict no issues with Opera 3 for 3 :) .

I've used Opera since version 8. It's nowhere near as bad as it used to be in terms of yo-yoing between buggy and stable releases, but sometimes they can update it to something that feels like it can just start crashing randomly, being generally slow to use, having various plugins fail constantly etc. I then go to use Chrome or something for a few months but when I get back it's usually a feeling of how I ever managed with good ol' Opera :D

Not having any issues right now with it - but I'd say hop to another browser for a little while, you'll feel the difference when you come back ;)

I have always had a love / hate relationship with Opera for many many years. It tends to be a bit of a roller coaster browser with certain aspects of it getting worse, or better, and then alternating with my type of usage. I was getting really frustrated with the Opera link a while back, not very friendly to edit bookmarks there etc, and so I haven't bothered with that for a while.

My need for certain addons which Firefox offers has tended to keep me returning back to that as my main browser even though the offerings from chrome or IE have been very good.

I had given it a try when 12.11 was released as final and then tried the latest 12.12 snapshot but, for some reason, it just seems to have gotten slower...? I haven't played with it much but then again my first impressions haven't encouraged me to.

I'll give that a go until 13 is released.

I've been a long-term fan and advocate since version 7 back in 2004, but this is just a pointless web experience. I will switch to another browser for a while.

I think even Chrome is getting wobbly now. I've had several issues with it the past month or two. Internet Explorer 10 is a great alternative again.

It definitely does seem to have problems with Youtube, particularly embedded videos where the controls don't display properly. I find that after every couple of updates it helps to remove and re-install.

I also hate the fact the office 365 webmail deliberately doesn't work in it.

Sorry for the revival but it's related.

Recently I've noticed Opera getting seriously slow. I chalked it up to my PC being a bit full and so when I recently switched to an SSD with a fresh install I was excited at the prospect of Opera being back to its old glory. Alas it was not so.

It's clunky, slow, incompatible and just generally full of problems. I've been a huge advocate for Opera for many years now, but now I'm starting to wonder if they're messing it up somehow?

Notably, I'm working on a mobile site for a piece of coursework that is relatively JavaScript heavy (JQuery Mobile). I did my usual of developing it on Opera, then testing it on numerous other browsers. On some pages (Especially one containing a map - Admittedly from Google's own API), I was noticing a 5-6 second load time on both Opera for desktop, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile for Android, whilst I was only getting <1 second on Chrome?

I'd rather not abandon Opera after all this time, but Chrome is really starting to look like a better option :(.

I've started to have issues on one of my Opera PCs so much so had to install Firefox and notice Firefox is a lot faster then Opera on that PC,had slowness/crashes etc...don't know if its related to 12.12 version only(I tried uninstalling and reinstalling etc..),so gone from 3 for 3 to 2 for 3,will keep Firefox on that PC because its fast and have the layout like Opera, could not use Chrome since not as customizable as either Opera or Firefox.

Clean install it, the user folders get clogged to hell and can cause crashy/slow behaviour.

I just cannot move away from Opera as I am also a big fan of the email client. It's wise to go through config: opera and tweak it up also though.

Disable Torrent client if you do not use it etc, disable plugins you do not need at opera: plugins.

I personally do NOT use a Disk Cache, I have fast broadband so do not see the point. I allow Opera to run purely in memory and doing so made it hugely more responsive compared to allowing it to cache to disk.

I've set the redrawing to occur instantly instead of the (Presumably default?) 3 seconds, this seems to have helped but that could be a placebo affect, especially as I've no idea if that option is even related. It's still not up to Chrome speed but we're getting somewhere.

Sadly I'm running on a fresh Windows install with of course a clean Opera install and was having issues!

All I have are the standard few (Flash, Adobe Reader and Office Reader).

This interests me, can you tell me where this option is? I can find other cache options but not disk cache?

Cheers for the tips :)!

Hmm, all I get there are memory cache options, which I'm guessing won't have as much of an effect. Unless that's what he meant?
