Consider this:

Firefox:
1. open forums.ocuk main page, middle click all links that look interesting to load in background,
2. click on last tab opened and read thread, middle click on tab to close. or Ctrl-W
3. next last opened tab appears, rinse and repeat.
4. finally ending up at main page, ready to click 'motors' or whatever.

Opera:
1. open forums.ocuk main page, middle click all links that look interesting to load in background,
2. click on last tab opened and read story, middle click on tab to close. or Ctrl-W
3. Returns you to forums.ocuk main page.
4. Click back onto a tab you haven't read yet.
5. Read tab, close, Returns you to forums main page. ARGGHHHHH WHAT'S THE POINT OF TABS IF YOU KEEP GOING BACK TO THE SAME PAGE??
5. Might as well open one tab, read it close it, return to main page, open next tab. Rinse and reapeat.

Maybe someone can tell me the logic of this, or where I am going wrong. AFAICT there is NO way to change this behavior in Opera. It's the thing that stops me from using it daily. Otherwise it's a great browser. + Firefox is getting old and clunky now. Background loading of tabs pah don't make me laugh.

Thanks great resource, just reading, don't think there's a resolve i was wanting, but I think I maybe be able to cope with a custom mouse gesture or 2. We'll see.

There is a great logic in Opera coming back to the last opened page after you close a tab spawned from it. One of my biggest pains in firefox is that I have 20-30 tabs open across screen, if I spawn a link in new tab from. let's say 3rd tab in my 20 tabs and then close it, why on earth would I want to be returned to last tab in a queue (tab nr 20) rather than what I was reading last?
