After having a few problems with Firefox, I decided to give Opera 9 Beta 2 a whirl.

Oh my! Why didn't I convert earlier!

Just a fast if not faster than Firefox, loads quicker, consumes less memory and doesn't feel sluggish with a lot going on, mouse gestures are awsome when using a laptop (Touchpad. Have to use keyboard shortcuts to move back and forwards. Not anymore!), picture preview of tabs I have open.

More I use it the more useful features I find.

Loving it!

I actually have Opera installed, but never really get round to using it.

Who knows, i might give it a whirl this weekend.

Welcome to the world of Opera :)
I've been using it for a few years now and much prefer it over FF, its feels cleaner, slicker and smoother and I'm so used to mouse gestures that when I do use FF or IE I get frustrated by not having them, iirc you can get FF extensions for mouse gestures. You'll probably find glitches in the odd webpage from poor programming that will require you to fire up IE on the odd occassion, but this has never put me off sticking with Opera.

I've used opera twice now, always came back to firefox.

Once for about a few months I loved opera, then it got slow on me :(

Plus, I cant customise the layout to how I like, how I have firefox layed out. I have like a million plugins and such for firefox that does exactly what I want, I couldnt find therse for opera :(

Anyway, overall out the two, firefox wins it by me, but only by a hair. I'm sick of it crashing, of its instability, of its memory/cpu use, but I just cant, get along with opera that well, which is a shame, because I really want to, lol.

I have been an Opera user for years, it is just quite simply the best browser around. Glad you made the switch.

I've just read this thread and downloaded Opera 8.5

First impressions are good, seems a very lightweight browser. I might have to play around with it further to see if it suits me.

Edit: Just found that ALT + S post shortcut isnt working!

Also is there a status bar that says Done + any Bookmarks bar?

Since when was Opera free? I remember trying it out once but seem to remember that you had to buy the full version of it, that's what put me off.

I just downloaded Opera 9 Beta and i'm really enjoying using it, it seems much smoother than ff and has all the features of the essential Googlebar for Firefox.

Its been free for a while, all its revenues are through using the google search box I believe.

Its been my favourite browser for a good few years now, and it gets better with every release :)

I didn't really like the one i tried when you had to pay for it but it seems like it does get better with each release as i really like it now. One thing i've noticed that it has over Firefox is that when you go back or forward a page it's instant whereas in Firefox it takes a while to reload the page.

Downloaded Opera 9 beta as a result of this thread. Have to say I LOVE the RSS feature. I recently tried to set up some RSS feeds off the BBC news sites in Firefox and it tooks me ages. Then I realised the orange logo in the address bar. Duh!

Opera was so much easier to sort out RSS and even puts the feeds into a Feeds menu instead of Firefox mixing links and feeds in the Bookmarks menu.

Definitely worth me spending some time in Opera and messing around with it.

Opera's absolutly class. I left Firefox after the memory leeks started to annoy me. I think it's a lovely browser. The only gripe I have with it is that I wish there were a larger selection of skins and e.g. plugins for it. Then it would be mint!

Right, need some help.

Couple of things I liked with Firefox but can't seem to find with Opera.

1. Can you bookmark all open tabs in a folder?

2. How do you open a new tab with the keyboard and mouse? My laptop has no middle click button and with firefox I was able open a new tab holding ctrl and clicking on the link. Is there a similar way with Opera?

Apart from that, love it!:D

I converted a few months ago and wouldn't go back.

your questions:

1. Not found this yet, but you can save sessions which does something similar, so I assume there is some method of doing it. you can find sessions in:

file -> sessions

2. Ctrl+shift and click the link should open it in a new tab.
