Hi

Atm my computer is something terrible, AMD 3200, 7900GS, 1GB RAM 160GB HDD

I’ve always wanted a good pc and when I first built mine above (about 5-6 years ago) it was good enough for me and Battlefield 2, C&C which is what I used to play..

Now I want to build a pc that can run BF3 maxed out no problem and also be okay to play future games.

My original budget was going to be 1k but the spec I’ve come up with in order to future proof me slightly has gone over...

Can someone have a look and let me know if anything I’ve picked is not needed or if there are better components to use...I know the GFX and SSD could save me some money if I got something like 5870 or GTX 480 and scrapped the SSD altogether and just installed the OS onto one HDD along with everything else, but is that shooting myself in the foot? I’m not really up to date with all the SSD stuff..

Also not sure between the ASUS P67 which I’ve put below or the Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P FOR £148.98?

MSI GeForce GTX 580 OC Twin FrozR II 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card [N580GTX-TwinFrozrII ] £379.99

Intel 320 Series 120GB 2.5" SATA-II 25nm Solid State Hard Drive - Retail £179.99

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor £161.99

Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) ** B3 REVISION ** £159.98

XFX 750W Black Edition Modular Power Supply £96.98

Samsung SH-B123L/RSBP 12x BluRay ROM DVDRW DL & RAM Lightscribe SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (Retail) £59.99

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM £39.98

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit £39.98

Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler £24.98

Total = £1,156.48

I also need to buy a nice 24" monitor and Windows 7 and a case....and anything else ive missed.

Thoughts please?

Buying a rig now for a game not out for 5 months or so is madness.

Spend you money closer to the time.

Im not, I havent got the money yet..but need to know if what ive picked is okay so when it comes to ordering I know what im looking for, obviously by then products will be cheaper or even better ones out I could get but for now I just need to know if thats okay and if its all needed...

If you really want the SSD then I would go with the Z68 boards as they can use the SSD as cache for the other HDD.

+1 Stulid I bought one of those the other week for a build and the motherboard is a great bit of kit.

In my personal opinion I recommend at the very least... Another 2 GB of ram in that system. For some reason... My Windows 7 64 bit takes up about 1.4 GB of ram just to load the OS. Leaving me with a very respectable 4.6 GB of free ram to do what I want while I'm on my computer.

Assuming that you're getting Windows 7 64 bit... You might encounter the same issue as me. That would therefore mean you only really have about 2.5 to 3.0 GB of free ram for your system.

If you can afford to, upgrade to 6 GB.

Also, do you plan to overclock your processor?
