Operation Flashpoint 2 - CGI trailer released

CGI is completely irrelevant and I have no idea why Codemasters didn't even use the actual game engine. It's obnoxious and incredibly misleading.

cheers! Looks fab.

That it does, I do hope that they can get up to that level of detail in the actual game, I'm looking forward to more details. They're designing it for octo-core processors, too.

It's clear, in their conversation, that they get it - that they understand that turning Operation Flashpoint into a quick arcade-style shooting gallery simply will not work. It's clear that they understand the importance of Flashpoint's original community. It's clear that they consider the game's natural home is on the PC (console versions will come, but without the same level of graphical fidelity) and that, even if the game will run well on today's Core 2 Duo processors, they're planning for the future, and building in enough overhead to take advantage of next years octo-core processors.

To get across the look and feel of the game I'd assume. Codies are generally good at hitting their target renders anyway - just look at DiRT and GRID :).

I hope that atleast used assets from the game, or is a heavily rendered cinematic from within the game... if that is just 100% CGI then its the most pointless nonsense ever.

To get across the feel of the game? That video just looked like CoD4.5 open field warfare. Nothing like a tactical military war simulator. Arma2 will be the one that i'm looking forward to in this respect. I can only hope that flashpoint 2 is still a good game.

its a trailer, you know to say 'operation flashpoint: dragon rising coming soon', who cares if its CGI, its just meant as a teaser, nothing more, nothing less

If its coming soon, why aren't they just showing us how it looks and plays in game? why make a contrived pile of nonsense which only shows that someone, somwhere in the world knows how to make CGI videos.

i guess its a wise move, so it doesn't get overhyped like crysis for example, and they might feel the game engine isn't quite ready to unveil yet

Community Liaison guy from Codemasters here, and I can confirm that the trailer uses footage created from rendered versions of in-game models.

That trailer does not represent the realism of operation flashpoint, it could equally be a trailer for Call of duty 4. Op flashpoint is more like project reality in that it has long travel times back into battle which requires more carefully planned squad tactics not lone wolf rambo style of more arcady fps.

Looking at that video which looks excellent, I would think it uses some spurced up part of the game engine, it doesn't quite look full CG-esque, for instance, when it switches to the APC gunners optics, the smoke from the enemy vehicles explosion looks like high resolution smoke sprites from the first Op Flash game
