so i think then arma is the game to be watching. i had no idea bohemia released a game in the same spirit. whats it like? is it worth buying? how faithful or not is it to ofp?

Dogoid the story line is not as good as OFP and still as buggy but saying this the patches has improved the game so it's more forgiving. The graphics are really nice but need a high end card to enjoy it (imo @ least a 8800gt/radion equivelent and above) and there is a long standing community from OFP days that have loads of resources for ARMA Armaholic is just one fro example have a google and read.

If you really liked OFP (not everbodies cuppa) you will like ARMA should be able to buy it really cheap now. If you do pop onto our server for a taster.

ok, ill look into it, maybe get the demo first. nothing worse than a buggy game.

The latest beta patch (1.11) seems to have fixed a lot of bugs, the SP campaign is rubbish compared to OFP so would only buy it if you intend to play online.

BF2 is a different game but at least in Arma you dont have to put up with the childish clans stat padding and/or kicking you for daring to kill them more than once.

not trying to bash the thread, but did anyone else really hate Operation Flashpoint?

just seemed like it had overcomplicated controls, crap sound and rubbish graphics!

It was a love it or hate it game really, the gfx were and aquired tasted, the sounds were nothing special but the controls were complicated because the game was complicated - you had to control ai soldiers doing many different things as well as yourself, vehicles etc etc.

The people who hated it tended to be the same people who would compare it to BF2 though I think, its not a FPS more a tactical shooter, if you just want to run around jump in a tank and spam artillery then BF2 is the game for you.

thanks for the heads up on the new patch

you have to dig around on the forum to find it, it's not advertised on the main page. Might have to re-install and give it a whirl to see if its fixed the vista64/8800 issues.

New patch is great game finally works on my machine (4gb vista) been playing it online all morning quite good

I also think the editor good feature aswell can make some really nice scenarios and huge scale wars.

Also the addons that created are superb as posted above on armaholic there is loads.
