Does anyone know if an Operators Licence (HGVs) is issued for each individual Vehicle or is it a single Licence that covers a Fleet for all Vehicles operating from the Licensed premises?

Also, is it Legal to not display an Operators Licence on a HGV, or are there any circumstances when an Operators Licence is not required (It's a 24Hr Recovery Vehicle over 3.5T)?

TIA doofer.

The problem I have now is..I need their Operators Licence details to lodge a complaint with the Traffic Commissioner about them breaching their Licence.

The Traffic Commissioners office told me to get their Licence details off the Vehicle..knowing it didn't have one displayed as I told them it was a Recovery vehicle, WTF...

Its a Recovery vehicle which is why it'll have no "O Licence" displayed.

There are several categories of vehicle that do not need an operator's licence, including:

* Recovery vehicles. This means any vehicle that is built or permanently adapted to lift, tow and transport a disabled vehicle. If your vehicle is not going to be used exclusively for recovering disabled vehicles from the roadside, you will need an operator's licence.
This ^ - Tbh, I'm surprised that the Traffic Commissioner did not point this out to you!

Operators Licence

With operator licensing the licence covers the fleet but you assign vehicles within that fleet to the operators licence.

I've spoken to a company called OLMC about operators licence information in the past, they are always happy to answer questions over the phone. Give them a try. Hope it helps.
