Guys,

Been looking for somthing to either sit alongside my SV100S or to replace it.

Seriously considering a 2 door, super 7 style kit car.

Westfields/catherams seem to go for silly money for 5yr old cars.

I have found a few MK Indy cars, very low mileage, not on Q plates, with blackbird/fireblade engines.

Anyone driven one/have an opinion?

Cheers

DrWho on here built (or had built for him) a Kwak-powered Caterfield thingy.

I think it was an MK Indy from memory...But my memory's crap.

Looking at some MK Incy cars on pistonheads, some of them go for more than a well sorted westie :)

Why comprimise, spend that bit extra, and get a decent westie :)

don't forget that the quality will partly depend on who built it and how prefessionally they did it. you need to look more carefully than with a regular car.

My mates on his second self built Mk Indy (first was ZX-9R powered, this ones got an R1 lump), they're excellent value for money, even more so if you can build one yourself...winter project maybe?.

I was looking at factory built westie's for some summer fun next summer. But typically, how much does an Indy cost to build? Id love to build one and get some mechanical know how in the process.

I think the total for his first one was around £5k on the road. The second cost more but he added stuff to the build like Westfield leather seats and double bubble screen, 17" alloys, big brakes, etc. For the amount of money spent on the first there wasn't a lot to touch it...
:D

MK Indys are one of the best of the "Locost" breed of cars, generally regarded as very good cars to drive. Pretty much every bit as good as a Westie/Caterham/Striker.

DrWho's car was an MNR Vortx if memory serves, but that's a bit of a financial step up from the MK if you will.

MK are great. They have made several things for me over the years :).

If I were you I would be looking for a car on a Q plate. It makes future engine swaps much easier as all Q plate cars escape the emission test at MOT time...

The locost builders forum is well worth a visit.

Agreed with Penski - the build quality is down to the builder.

I've seen some absolutely shocking Westfields, downright awful Cobra replica interiors (£15k on a cobra replica, and the owner stuck a tatty 20 year old sierra interior in - torn seats and everything).

But on the other side of the show, I've seen some awesome Locost kitcars. A mate of mine had a zx9r Stuart Taylor locost, very well put together, top quality suspension/drivetrain components... It would shame a Westie that was put together on the cheap.
