Asus P5N32-E SLI nForce 680
Intel C2D E6700
GeIL 2GB PC8500 1066MHz DDR2
BFG GF8800 GTX OC 768Mb PCI-E
Antec P180 case

First home built rig, so any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not sure on the case; having to remove the HD cage to fit the 8800…I'm looking for something spacious, cool and quiet.

Also, I'm torn between the PC8500 and the PC6400C4 800MHz. Will be using software such VS2005/Photoshop/3DSMax etc - will there be a notable difference between these two sets using these applications?

Unless your overclocking there isn't a need for even faster RAM.

Welcome to the forums. The E6700 is pretty poor value in my eyes, you are paying ~£150 for what is a pretty minor speed bump over the 6600, I'd overclock the 6600 to the same speed if not further easily. I'd buy the PC6400 as even if you are overclocking when paired with the 6600 it should be capable of 3.6ghz without running it out of specification.

The 680 is quite an expensive chipset when the 650 will have most of the features. :)

Thanks again –

I'll go for the E6600, 680i and 8800GTX. Though I’m still undecided on the memory.

I’ve had some others suggest that faster ram would be more beneficial than 2xWD Raptor X 150GB 10,000RPM drives in RAID?

Any opinions on the P180 case? It's got some good reviews...

Check out the Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case, as well. Its seems popular on these forums.

I would go for some Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX, if you can afford it.

BTW What PSU will you be using?
