Opinion wanted, Cheap Scanner...

Hi all.

Parents need a new, fair priced scanner. Budget between £50-100, +-20
Scanner is to do all thusual, documents, mags and also some photo + film + slide scanning facilities would very useful. (They have lots of old phots that are fading fast and want to be digitised).

Contenders include:

Epson Perfection 3590 Photo: ~£88
...................... 3490: ~60

Canon Canoscan 4200F: ~£60
...................... 8400F: ~£117.4 (top end of budget).

Any opinions or suggestions?
Any help much appreciated.

why dont you get one of those all in one things (printer, scanner, copier) it will save pace on your desk. i could tell you where one is but i aint sure wether you are allowed to mention other companies or not??

They already have a capable printer. IMO, the multifunction devices are very poor. My sister has an expensive HP one and the photo print quality is dire.

Should be able to get a reasonable scanner for a lot less than a multifunction box anyway.

The Epson 3490 is a very nice scanner for its price, easy to use - fast enough when it warms up & decent quality - comes with one of those tray thingys for putting film & slides into for scanning as well.

I actually bought one as a stop gap for scanning delivery notes for work a few months ago & it's still going strong despite daily use of 50+ scans....

I have the cannon one. It is very good, very fast and the quality is also very good.

Great piece of kit.
