Has anyone used it? and is it any good and worth doing? especially as you can get an 8gb usb pen now for around £20

well ive got 3 but when i added 870mb of readyboost it loads stuff like office much quicker now. is there a limit on how much it can use.

so, theoretically if you had say 250Mb ram you could include a 2-4gb external stick and could run vista, assuming the cpu and graphics was up to scratch and the usb stick is ready boost compatable

It would still run like a dog, readyboost is designed to compensate for the slow access times of harddrives, so Vista will take the first part of a file from the memory stick, then when the harddrive has caught up it will take the rest of the file from the HDD as it has a much faster data transfer rate.

ive got 3gb ram, 512 mb gpu and so that means that ive got less than about 200mb for the system yet when i added 850mb of readyboost memory it seemed to speed up lots of things.

If you have 2 or more gb of ram its a waste of time.

I have heard some laptop users stating that even with 2 or 4gb of system memory, it can still help "some" if you have a 5400RPM HD. But, I don't know know scientific those statements were. Readyboost drives are very cheap so it's easy to test if you are interested and have 1gb or less of system memory OR a 5400RPM HD. If you have 2gb+ or a 7200RPM drive it may indeed be a waste of money if you don't otherwise need the drive.
