managed to scrape a bit more case together for a proposed build, would appreciate opinions on this (general usage, bit gaming, future-proofing a bit). No overclocking etc, just a straight build

ASUS Z97 & Devils Canyon i5 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-014-AS £262
EVGA 650w PSU https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-024-EA £77
Noctua NHD14 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-011-NC £66
Kingston Hyper x Savage 16gb https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-204-KS £74
kINGSTON ssd https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-052-KS&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=2394 £60
gtx 960 sTRIX https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-359-AS £220

APPROX £760

just really need some case suggestions, the Phantek Enthoo looks canny, or one of the CoolerMasters

cheers

You're overspending on that GPU - either get a cheaper 4gb variant or spend a few quid more and get a GTX970 / R9 390.

If you're not overclocking then get a cheaper cooler - spend £20 on a Raijintek.

You're slightly overspending on the PSU too, but for the saving over the 550w version you may as well stay with what you have selected - very good power supplies

SSD is cheap for a reason - some are plagued with speed issues. Spend a little more on a Crucial or Samsung drive

The rest looks ok

cheers mate, that was quick :-)
i've been pur off the 970 by the talk of it's major slow-down once you start using up the vid memory, the 960 seems not to have that issue?
what are the Raijinteks like for noise? the thing will be about 2 feet from me so i wanted stuff as quiet as poss; i've got that Noc in my other build, it's fantastic.
originally had a Crucial BX100 on my list but i saw the "this week only" offer! ta for the heads-up on the issues.

The 970 issue only really rears it's head when you start really pushing the resolution / settings in games like GTA V. Here's a link if you're interested.

Don't get me wrong the GTX960 is a good card for the price, just not at that price :D

I've got a rajintek in my build sitting next to me and I can't hear it (3 feet away). Any fan noise I do hear is from my GPU when playing some games or case fans if I really listen.

cheers guys.
if changing from the Noc i think i'm preferring the Raijintek over the Alpenfohn, the Thermis Contact looks pretty good.

as for the Radeon R9, i swore i'd not go back to AMD, they completely and utterly fkd me off w/ both quality and customer service in the past.

BTW, re the PSU, i totally forgot to mention that my original plan was futureproofing to perhaps allow for a second 960/970 in the future.

i was planning just to stick w/ DDR3 memory, but id doesn't seem like much of a difference in price now unless you go to the silly top end, probably worth going DDR4 for future proofing?

are the Giga's the best Z170 option cos of the bundle? scouring reviews it seems the ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming might be the better board, might be preferable to get that and the proc sepearately?
