I'm looking at building a new PC, I have sorta decided on the following and am looking for opinions on them:
  • OCZ GameXStream 850w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
  • OcUK ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT SILENT Heatpipe 1024MB GDDR4 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
  • Asus Blitz Formula Special Edition Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
  • OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2 (OCZ2G8004GK)
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Are there any issues with the above? any recommendations? I'm gonna run Windows Vista 64 on it and overclock it sometime in the future

Save yourself £30 and get this and then with the spare £30 you can get a Tuniq Tower for the Q6600 :)

The Corsair will take more than what you have to throw at it plus its a very stable psu for overclocking also.

The Tuniq should hover over the heatsink as it has quite some height.

Why did you choose the 2900XT?

chose the ati 2900 as it seems to be the most powerful available at the mo for the money, nvidia seemed to be very expensive. If i misread somewhere let me know

Its certainly the better when it comes to encoding/decoding video, HD, etc....

But when it comes to gaming, the 8800GTX does beat it hands down. Depends what you want to do with it to be honest.

ok, in order to prevent me going silly i am going to set a budget of £1000, what do people think of the:
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM

to replace the ATI

My PC is mainly going to be for gaming.

Which is better?

Ok hows this:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme Heatsink (Socket AM2/LGA775)
Noctua NF-S12 1200RPM 120mm Silent Case Fan - 3 Pin
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS II Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black

Total : £993.87

Sticking with my existing case, DVD drive and HDD for now. Looking to just replace the CPU, Mobo, GPU and memory

Stickroad - Those parts you listed good for overclocking or just within budget

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804)

OcUK ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT SILENT Heatpipe 1024MB GDDR4 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
