I'm going to be getting a new PC next month and am planning on getting one of the pre-built OcUK ones, the Titan Xenomorph to be precise

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-237-OK

With the upgrade to the XFX ATI Radeon HD 5830 1024MB& Windows 7 Home Premium(full spec below).

How will this rig run mordern games on a 24 inch screen? I'm asking because my current PC is just over 7 years old and I've not been able to play a new release for around 3 years and I'm itching to get some of the modern titles (games like Fallout 3, ME & ME 2, COD MW2 etc).

Thanks

It should do pretty good. You're not going to be able to max out the AA and AF in cutting edge titles (e.g. Bad Company 2, Metro 2033) but you will be able to run all games on high settings with most of the eye candy. One thing I would say though is that if you can, you'd be better off with an i5 750 instead of the i3, as quad cores are becoming more and more useful these days, even in games.

You might want to contact OcUK and ask about having a Radeon 5850 put in. For gaming, always make sure you have *plenty* of graphics horsepower, it's more important than having a quad core since games at high resolution are limited by the graphics card rather than the CPU.

Cheers.

Depending on how much I manage to save this month, or might put off buying a new Pc for another month, I might go for this

Will the 2nd PC I've mentioned have noticably increased performance over the 1st one on modern games like BF2 BC, ME 2, Metro 2033?

It won't be much better, but it will be better. It's that extra sheen on top, with a bit of extra future-proofing. Bad Company 2 loves quad cores too.

You could ring them and ask if they'd put the i5 and 5850 in the first build - might save you some cash. Either system is going to be a huge step up from your 7-year-old rig, but in your situation I'd make sure I got the very best parts I could afford.

Thanks for that, you're not wrong about being a huge step up from the old rig:
P4 3ghz,
1 gb ram
Radeon X850XT 256mb AGP

:p

What reflux said really. If you're upgrading after having such an old pc you might aswell go the extra step.

I bought a new pc in november after having a rather crappy dell for 4 years, and stupidly i only went for a dual core at the time. Within a month or 2 i was wishing i'd bought more (luckily i could unlock mine to a quad though so didnt need to shell out money)
