Hi there,
Admittedly, I do not know all that much on MTB bikes. More of a road bike kinda guy. But want to get off the beaten track occasionally on hard packed gravel and a few muddy, gravel trails.
I saw this Marin Rock Springs Elite for $999, (I live in the USA) heavily discounted from $1850 and well, went in for the impulse buy and bought it.. (mail order waiting on delivery)

I like the manufacturer, Marin and have owned a couple of their urban bikes in the past. (Point Reyes and Novato's) and have been very pleased with them.
I know Fox is a decent brand of Forks, looked at the Evolutions and they would normally cost around $500, so i guess that makes them intermediate level ? . Also Sram makes excellent road groupsets. I know at $1800 its probably nothing like what some of you guys spend.
Just be interested in hearing other opinions on this bike. Given I'm learning. A hardtail bike is perfect for what i'll be using it for, on gravel roads. No rocks here so no need for a full suspension bike. The bike fits my needs.
More concerned why i can't find any info on it, on the Marin website under their archive, or why its so heavily discounted. Hopefully its just cos its a 2012... and things have changed in that now everything is 29" wheels, and carbon frames, with internal cables as appose to external.
Personally I prefer the look of 26" wheels.
Anyway just curious and happy to hear other peoples opinions that know more about MTB than me.
Thanks in advance.
