Hey guys, I've always been a console gamer (owned pretty much every console through their various evolutions) but at the same time always had my eye on an all conquering PC. I've more often than not decided against one due to space restraints at home and also the price. However, I've now gone against the grain and opted to go bat-poop mental so I can hook it up in my lounge to my Panasonic GT50.

This is what I've ordered this far:

* Intel Core i5 4670K Quad Core Retail CPU (Socket 1150, 3.40GHz, 6MB, Haswell, 84W)
* Asus Z87-PRO USB 3.0 Motherboard (4x DDR3, ATX, 2x PCI Express 3.0/2.0, Intel, Wi-Fi)
* Toshiba DT01ACA200 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 7200rpm 3.5 Inch Internal Hard Drive
* Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5 inch Basic SATA Solid State Drive
* EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX780 Superclocked ACX Cooler 3GB GDDR5 Graphics Card (PCI Express 3.0, HDMI, DVI-I, DVI-D, Display Port, 384-Bit, 2560x1600, Nvi)
* 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Jet Black Low Profile, PC3-12800 (1600), Non-ECC, CAS 9-9-9-24, XMP, 1.5V
* Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White Midi Tower Soundproof Case
* 750W Corsair RM Series 80PLUS Gold Modular Power Supply
* Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler.
* Samsung DVDRW.

I'll mostly be using it for gaming (BF4 as I also have that on XBOne, Witcher 3 when it arrives etc.) but also work related Autodesk Inventor modelling and word processing. I realise it's perhaps a tad overkill but if you're going to do something...

Just after opinions really on anything I may have missed off or recommendations. As I say I'm relatively new to all this and although I have a tech head I'm sure I'll struggle a little during the build process.

I also don't know about the OS, should it be Win7 or Win8? Like I say, the knowledge from my superiors here would be most appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Thanks chaps. The issue I have with Windows 8 is the fact that a lot of people are saying it's not as stable or as "usable" as Windows 7, as the UI is very confusing and more catering for the tablet environment. I use Windows 7 at work which is fine, and must admit I haven't seen 8 in operation at all - I do know it seems to use windowed tabs etc.

As for the build itself, will I need anything else other than a mouse/keyboard? I'm talking cooling, leads etc. I'm thinking the only lead I'll need is a HDMI from GPU to the TV?

It takes a little getting used too, but you should be fine.

If you are gaming on a TV - you may also want an xbox controller (if you don't already) If it's a wireless xbox controller then you will need to buy the PC receiver.

Yeah I've just bought this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XBOX-360-...ntroller-/231114762781?_trksid=p2054897.l4276

I have an XBOne at the moment so would have been nice having the new controller to use on the PC but don't think that's an option yet.

Thanks for the advice :)

Completed this build over the weekend/yesterday. Very happy with the results on my Panasonic P50GT50 TV.

In ExtremeHD, I got back FPS 65.2 and Score 2729.

Just getting used to it all really.

How are you finding Windows 8?

Well, I've actually used a mod to revert to Windows 7 style UI, so I can use the start button and desktop etc. I have no need to use the Metro style UI or tiles, so that's now a secondary function. I'm finding it much like Vista/7 now. Which is good.

Still finding my way around the structure of it all. For example, if I double click on a movie file it will open it in a Metro App when I just want Windows Media Player or VLC to handle it. So I'll have to update what does what with a particular extension. Same with an image file.
