Hey all,

Was looking to create a PC around £400-£600 (lower the better) only needing a GPU/CPU/Motherboard/RAM and this is what my friend came up with who's quite knowledgeable, just curious as to opinions on it :)

so a gaming pc then with chip and vga etc, rams a lot, same as what ive got but for most its over kill as not many use the whole amount either, but it's good stuff.

apart from maybe the motherboard, many would choose a different one, are you overclocking?

I have to ask.....what PSU do you intend to use? If you are just gaming 8GB is a nice round figure, you can add more RAM later if you desire.

Trigger has done a nice little basket there (like the colour co-ordination too). Only issue is the RAM is quite tall as it isn't low profile, your mate has done the same with that corsair RAM. This can make getting heatsinks over the RAM an issue, anything over 1600mhz makes little odds on the 1155 socket but as it has a lifetime warranty as a rule of thumb get the fastest stuff you can.

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) with FREE FARCRY3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs & 20% off MOH Warfighter PC Games £229.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £167.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC) £35.99
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99
Total : £553.94 (includes shipping : FREE).

The windforce is a fine GPU but this HIS is a little (£30) cheaper and actually will run faster than the windforce out of the box. RAM is 1600mhz colour coded to the RAM slots managed to squeeze a decent air cooler in aswell to help overclock the CPU. Works out a couple of quid cheaper than Triggers spec.

The MSI mobo your mate suggested isn't bad as such but is voltage locked which means it's not ideal for overclocking. Gigabyte have a good 3 year uk based warranty and their mobos have a dual BIOS which is a nice safety feature

Hope this helps

Im not having a go at you idle but i just want the OP to understand why i'd prefer Hono's Spec to yours.

First of all the GPU, the Windforce is renowned for it's silent fans even under load. Where The Asus slips up is it takes up 3 expansion slots.. Not really a problem but if you want to install a sound card or something later it may become an issue.

The RAM Idle has spec is good but it has quite high heatsinks on it which may interfere with an air cooler, if you decided to install one, where the geil Ram has low heatsinks.

Also Hono's Spec has a cooler, an aftermarket cooler is a great addition, in regards to noise and overclocking (and temps) :)

Like i said, no bad feelings Idle. :)

None taken, but as this is the 2nd thread where you have criticized my choice of ram, may I suggest you do a little research, I did.

I am sorry.. I was wrong, thanks for that link.. Was not able to find anything clear on my quick search:

Although Viper 3 can be deemed low-profile, the aluminium heat-spreaders still extend above the modules themselves. This extension is a mere 1.3cm and shouldn’t present any clearance issues for big CPU coolers. It certainly didn’t present any problems with the Alpenfohn K2 used in the testing procedure later in this review.

Viper is great :)

I didn't use the Windforce dude lol Trigger did ;)

I used the HIS as it was on offer but it's no longer that price. I used it to help pay for the heatsink. I agree the Asus is a hog for space, I used the geil kit as it colour matched with the mobo. I like to use the corsair vengeance in cerulean blue as that matches perfectly with the mobo heatsinks but the geil kit is cheaper and still matches the RAM slots.....yes I am that guy who worries how it looks lol
