Heya all,

I'm looking to future proof my set up a little bit (I currently have an AMD 4000+) and have a play about with some more overclocking. And of course jump onto the c2d bandwagon and all that entails!

I don't want to spend too much, but would like to get the CPU to 3GHz!

What do you all think of this please?

Nice, but i would drop the AF7 Pro & get somin like the Tuniq Tower

I would do but I'm a little nervous as to how to install such a cooler. It seems complicated and I lack a bit of confidence?

Will do, thanks very much :D

It's arriving on Tuesday - can't wait!

I was tempted to chuck in Vista too - but I'll hold off until the Nvidia driver issues are sorted I think.

I installed mine, you'll be fine. Put the back plate on before you screw down the mobo to the case/plate though :D

Any problems, post here and I'll find it.

Also, if you find it is loud then replace the fan (5 minute job). I did and it was very worthwhile.

Cheers :D

I've been reading up on the installation and it seems fine enough. One thing - do I need to stick down the backplate too? I've seen a few people say it's best to not use the sticky stuff?

It's all arriving tomorrow so I can't wait to get tinkering :D

Dont stick the sicky stuff to the mobo, it is very hard to remove. install the cooler with the mobo out of the case, (very easy) you can hold the back plate on with some masking tape or blue tack then remove the tape once the cooler is installed.

Yeah I always install the CPU, cooler and RAM before I put the mobo into the case with all of the systems I build :)

All noted about not using the sticky stuff - thanks very much indeed. I knew I'd read it somewhere around here. Is the tape/blu tack necessary or will I get by without it I wonder?

You'll need to use something to keep it in place. Once its on with the glue that comes with it, its on. For good.

I did it though, as I don't plan to swap my mobo every month...

I'm planning on sticking with this set up for a while too, but if something goes wrong and an RMA is needed etc, then I think I'll try to do without the sticky stuff :)

I have a question actually. I think the Tuniq comes with thermal paste?

Do I follow the usual one straight line of grain of rice sized paste down the centre of the CPU's heatspreader thing for applying it - or another method?

You may need to spread some of it over the CPU the do one strait line. The TIM that comes with the Tuniq is very good, but its a bit hard to spread. You'll see what I mean
