Opinions regarding replacement (second) GPU

One of the 280x's unfortunately died so I have a few options, budget is approx £200:

Simply replace the second 280x and remain at the same performance level. (approx £100-130)

Purchase a 7990 (about £70 more) to xfire with current 280x, and presumably a fair bit more tinkering (case has room for dual psu + adapter).

Or lastly change the GPU setup completely for single GPU, but potentially lose performance. 290, 290x or 970? Other options I have no found? The current working Asus 280x would need to be sold to increase the current budget though, which I am not keen on doing unless it would be worth it (near to the 280X xfire cheapest replacement at least)

Any opinions please, all are welcome.

I would buy another 280X. 2 280X still crushes every single card other than the TX, no real reason to replace them yet.

That being said, you might just want to stick with 1 and wait for AMD's new offerings, see what happens.

A 280x runs most games on high settings at 1080p so I suggest keeping it and consider an update once the new AMD cards are out.

2 280X's don't "crush" everything. A single 780Ti with a decent moderate overclock competes well with 2 280X's (2 7970's I had), so a single factory overclocked 980 for example will be around about as fast as the CF 280X's.

Still fairly pricey though, for what would effectively be a sidegrade (assuming CF profiles always work)
