Opinions so far?

I am currently working on a new website for an internet radio station/urban music forum/DJ agency.

I have come up with the following so far.

http://offlimitscrew.co.uk/dzire1/

There are no images on the site as of yet..

I was thinking of a simple text header and a larger perhaps flash image to the left of the news area?

Opinions/suggestions would be great.

Cheers.

What you have so far looks good even though it is only fairly basic. Like you say it needs some sort of header and you need to make use of the space on the left. I'm not a big fan of flash, but I guess if it's not too obtrusive then it would be ok in that left space. I'd maybe make better use of it by moving the events, mailing list and forums sections at the bottom round to the left.

On a more technical front, you have a few validation errors but they are nothing too serious. I'd also like to suggest that instead of putting your headers and links in uppercase in the HTML you do it in the CSS. The following would achieve this; -
Code:
text-transform: uppercase;

Cheers for pointing out the errors mate, last time I checked they were fine. Got them sorted and it validates fine now. :)

I could really do with using another colour for things like menu/link hovers. Nothing seems to work with that dark colour red though.

Hmmm, i'm not a big fan of flash either. Perhaps i'l add a div there for an introduction to the site with a nice background image.

Any more opinions/suggestions?

Cheers.

It looks alright, just a little flat, and this is just my personal opinion but dark coloured backgrounds connote a bit of a unwelcoming theme, but i'll wait til it's all finished, it's coming along well.

:)

got to say, i really dislike the colour scheme. My reasoning is that the red is overpowering as a page background, less so though on the subsection headers (news etc).

The white on black buttons at the top make my eyes seem fuzzy due to the banding underneath which only really sorts out when you hover over.

I really like the layout, just the colour scheme imo is too intense.

Wehey love the sound bite there - bit loud for me :p

Still haven't got round to lowering the volume on that!

I intend to add a background image starting from the bottom left and going up so a lot of the "red" will be gone mate.

What do you mean by the banding? The navigation sseems fine to me?

Cheers all.

Edit: Just had a closer look in IE and i've noticed the content is sticking out a few pixels to the right? Checked my paddings etc and everything seems OK?

i only have firefox (latest patch) and ie7 beta but both display your top nav bar differently. Firefox displays a small bar above and a bigger bar below each list item thats very slightly lighter black than the black background. On mouse over both turn white.

In ie7 only the top has a line above it, which i guess is what your trying to achieve?

Thats how I wanted it mate. It shows like that on IE6 and the latest FF on my PC/laptop.

Wonder why it changes with IE7?

Hmm, I can't possibly think where you have borrowed that background from. It does seem to fit in though.

Oh - I won't be using THAT actual background image on the site mate. Just grabbed it quickly so I could get an idea of what it looked like. :)

To be honest mate i've only really been into it for a few months, knocking a site up a month or so.

What I like about it most is that you are always learning new things and can apply it to your next project.

I like it. However I'm not too keen on the navigation. Overall its great and fits into the general theme until you hover over the links. I don't think the bars above and below the text do anything for it really.

Good job :)
