Hi,
I am hoping the many knowledgeable folk here might be able to either confirm my own suspicions or perhaps point me towards other possible solutions.
My system has twice shut down spontaneously. Each time a total power loss, requiring me to unplug and reset a few times before it would restart.
The gap between the two events was a full week.
During the week, I ran several stress tests. All passed without a hitch.
Temperatures are all very good - 30s or low 40s for CPU, GPU etc. All is liquid cooled.
The second time I noticed that the PSU - a Corsair ax1200i - had the red LED indicating a problem.
Naturally, given the type of problem and this indication, I suspect a faulty PSU and have arranged a replacement with Corsair directly.
However, I thought it wise to check other potential problems.
It seems unlikely to me that the board (Asus Rampage IV Extreme) would run flawlessly save these two shutdowns if it were faulty. Surely a power issue originating at the board would be less erratic?
The same goes for the other main components. I do not think it likely that they would pass stress tests and run for a week if they were failing.
My other thought is a short somewhere. I cannot see any evidence of a leak and I would think a short is also unlikely to manifest so randomly.
A quick web search revealed a few people with similar issues with Corsair PSUs. All fixed by replacing the PSU.
Still, I think it best to ask here whether anyone has experience of something similar and might be able to offer some guidance/reassurance.
Thanks.
