OPNsense VM vs router for VPN

How will an OPNsense VM compare to a router when it comes to running a OpenVPN VPN? Currently running the VM on four cores with 2Gb memory. Will the brute power of the four cores overcome any inbuilt hardware encryption process on the router?

The VM CPU is a Xeon which runs at 2ghz. Router could be a Mikrotik 750GR3 for example.

Compare the single core benchmark of both your VM host and your router and the answer should be self evident. Unless of course your router utilises AES-NI which will speed up VPN transfer rates.

And what benchmark compares a Xeon CPU with an ARM?

Can't answer either question definitely. But I know that I can get around 160Mbps download through my VPN using AES-NI as opposed to around 40Mbps without.
