Hey guys, just want some other oppinions as to whether or not I'm pushing my CPU too hard...

I was given my current setup in it's stock state and within a couple of days I decided to up it from 3.00GHz to 3.60GHz with the RAM running at 1000MHz - after a while then (plus reading on here a lot lol) I decided I wanted to hit the magic 4.00GHz so I had a fiddle with the FSB an the voltage etc and managed to get 4.005GHz with my RAM up to 1066MHz - then through sheer speed greed I decided to try to get 4.10GHz...that didn't happen but I did manage to milk 4.05GHz with RAM running at 1080MHz :) It's passed 10 runs of IBT and ran prime95 for a few hours with no glitches so IMO it's pretty stable...

Here's my settings as displayed in CPUz

And here's my BIOS O/C settings

Let me know what you think :)

I'm happy with it, but I don't want to murder my system obviously so if some of you think I'm driving it a bit too hard, it'd probably be best to wind it down a bit yes?

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert but that looks like a nice OC. What temps are you getting at load? That would be the a good indication of whether you are pushing it too far or not.

Seems to be fine.
What cooler are you using?
if possible I'd put another fan on it for push/pull just to be sure :p

I'm using a Thermalright Ultra120 - I'm planning on getting a 2nd fan on it actually :) just need to get some retaining clips for it (or some zip ties for the time being lol)

Nothing wrong with Zip Ties :p
I've found they can be quieter, as they have a little more give so don't vibrate as loudly :p

Hehehe, I've actually been thinking about doing that for a while - do you think they would stay in place well enough? That is - not fall off the heatsink etc?

Probably bad luck but when I zip tied the pull fan onto the 120 it made things worse lol

Have to get some matched fans and try again

On a different note, I thought I'd reset to stock speed/voltage and check what my actual temp increase was so I did a comparison with open hardware monitor and here's my results - I don't think that temperature difference is too bad, but again, I'm not much of an overclocking expert lol - more oppinions wanted :)

I keep dragging up this thread... but I keep making my stuff faster lol

Now at 4.10GHz (@1.38v) now and RAM at 1140MHz - CPU idle temps are Core 0 - 49*c Core 1 - 43*c

Will run prime after my kids finish watching toy story lol don't want it crashing while they're watching a film - they'll lynch me lol

>edit<
I guess they're not really totally 'idle' temps if the kids are watching a film are they... JetAudio will have to be using SOMETHING at least won't it?

I've had zip ties holding my fans to my rad and my rad to the roof of my case for two years now - never did get round to getting the right fittings ;)

That looks like a nice increase over stock. Have you tested it with Prime or anything to check your temps fully loaded?

Yeah, with Prime95 I get a max of 75 after 2 hours or so but a 20 pass run of Intel Burn Test cremates it at 83 lol - needless to say I only ran IBT once lol

IBT did similar to my cpu but that oc looks like it should be stable running apps and games. I hope to puch my q6600 up a bit more but I need to sort out some better cooling. It doesn't help my case is in a boxed in section under my desk. I am thinking about cutting some holes in the sides to allow more air circulation.

Yeah, it runs everything I throw at it quite happilly - including the torture tests - it doesn't crash or reset, just gets bloody hot with ibt lol
