Hi there
I recently purchased a MSI K8N DIAMOND mobo plus a Opteron 144 cpu running at 1.8ghz.The idea being to overclock it! The problem is i only seem able to clock it at 2ghz anything more and my pc will not boot.I have a gigabyte coolin fan and my temps arnt hot only 25c so i dont think heats a problem. The memory i have installed is Corsair twinX-XL 2*512mb runnin at 2-2-2-5 latency. Can anyone help me get more out of this processor?

More info will be needed.

Firstly, ifyou know, what are the voltages etc that your running at.

Secondly those timings on the RAM are going to have to be loosened, overclocking a 144 will send the FSB sky high, and so the RAM will be overclocked.
Do you know what a divider is? if so try setting a 333 divider, and try overclocking some more.

Thirdly, what PSU do you have, It'll need to be a decent solid one for doing some overclocking.

Everything you need to know should be found here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=138583 Please read this first. It is quite likely to answer most of your questions and increase your confidence. Then by all means feel free to ask as many question as you like.

And finally qood luck mate. If we don't see you asking question about how to squeeze morte out in the future then we expect a post showing screenshots of your Uber-clocked gameing monster telling us what an amazing overnight clocking demon you have become :)

i found out no matter how many threads i read the best way to learn how things overclock is to just get in the bios and get your hands dirty. read a couple of threads to get the basic settings people are using and then just play around to find the best overclock.
Take a look at this thread Here where they guy got some advice on overclocking his 144.
