hi all, ok need some people to tell me if my system is performing as it should:

Opteron 146 @ 274 x 10 = 2740mhz @1.375v :D
2 gig crucial value ram dual channel mode 3-3-3-10 @ 228mhz
assrock mobo dual sata2

right, super pi scores:

1M = 30.953s
32M = 27m 27.438s

is that what it should be doing or is it off the mark?

right, memtest passes fine, 20 passes on test 5 and 18 on test 8, got bored after that so ended tests manually. ram is running at 3-3-3-10 2t.

snm used to test stability, ran snm overnight and got no problems, max temp recorded was 46c.

not a bad upgrade for only 170inc vat for the board and cpu, from a competitor site though.

just a thread in the memory forum about 1t, its a problem with the board.

also board is restricted to 274 htt with the official bios. only beta bios allows up to 400htt. but im waiting since all beta bioses are currently based on a old official bios.

when i first got the cpu all i did was drop the vcore from stock 1.4 to 1.375 then installed windows etc. when it came to overclocking i first went to 2.5gig, then 2.6gig then attempted the max of my boards current bios which is 274 and it worked fine and i ran extra long stress testing sessions.

i wonder if i should try dropping voltage to 1.35v? would have to do lots more testing i guess.

should i give it a go?

forgot to add the ram is running on a divider at 228mhz.

cool, would be nice to hit higher speeds. would be happy with 2.8ghz since its a nice round number. only another 60mhz to go for me to hit it.

then again i wonder if this chip could do 3ghz?

hmm really need to do some beta bios modding.

im currently running memtest with 4 sticks of ram giving me 3gig of ram. hoping that the 512mb sticks can handle 228mhz.

hmm, im at 1.35v now in the bios, ran snm for 3 hours and still stable.
do you guys think i can go lower on the vcore or should i just stop here?

ok been running snm now for 8 hours and stopped it manually this morning and ran some super pi tests.
seems to be fully stable at 1.275v set in bios. :D gonna try to see if it will go any lower.

right im gutted, voltage won;t drop any lower, 1.2v will not load windows 1.225v loads windows but fails snm in 2 mins, 1.250v fails snm in 15 mins. and 1.275 been running snm for 16 hours+ with no problems, manually had to stop the test cuz i got home now. :D

wonder what this cpu is capable of on air though? need to get the bet a bios on the case im guessing.

right i have now flashed to the ocwbeta2 bios. let the overclocking commence.

so far 3ghz is not stable even at max board vcore of 1.45v.

currently testing at 2.9ghz @ 1.375v. to get to 2950mhz seems i have to cranck the vcore up to board allowed max of 1.45v. guess this cpu not as good as i though it would be.

oh well still testing and will post up my results soon.

forgot to add ram is on a higher divider and running at 193mhz on htt off 290 setting. timings still at 3-3-3-10 2T.

will let snm run for a few hours then i will test to see what i can do with the ram. will try a divider of 5/6 to give 242mhz but i seriously doubt that the ram will hit that speed and be stable.

not sure if the timings can be tightened since it is value ram but never the less will try.

right no luck with the ram at 242mhz got errors on second pass of memtest test 5.

changed divider back to give the 193mhz speed. gonna tighten up the timings now and see if its any better. either way looks like im stuck with 193mhz.

results just in:

193mhz 2.5-2-2-10 = errors

now trying 193 2.5-3-2-10

ok here is my final settings:

opteron3.png

2.9ghz @ 1.375v
ram is on divider doing 193mhz 2.5-3-2-10 2T

Max load temps after snm session of few hours was 48c

so how is this opteron holding up??

i guess its the board that is restricting me. snm has been running for 5 hours now and no problems what so ever, rock stable at current settings.

probably with a better board i could hit higher. but i guess this will do for now.
wish this board was able to run at 1T and have more memory divider options in bios.

i would but i doubt that i would benefit from it.

im at 2900mhz currently at 1.375v
im not even stable at 2950 even with max 1.45v on the vcore.
anything higher than the 290HTT is just plain unstable.
i have not tried 291-294htt but i tried 295-300htt and not stable on the overclocks with them.

i guess i should try 291 and go up and up and see if im stable.
the northbridge may be crapping out on me or something i guess.
ram is currently on divider at 193mhz. ram works perfectly fine at speeds of 228mhz so ram is not holding me back.

right this is the highest stable speed i can get it to:

HTT of 292 giving me 2920mhz @ 1.375v

i tried to go to 293htt and get 2930mhz but snm would crash within a few minutes.

odd thing is i even tried 1.40v, 1.425v and 1.45v at 293htt and it still wasn;t stable. max load temps were at 47c during the snm testing of 2920mhz. im sure to get that extra 10mhz the bumping of vcore from 1.375 to 1.45 would have been more than sufficient but it looks to me like im hitting a board limitation rather than a core limitation.

oh well 2920mhz is not that bad for 1.375v ehh?
