Opteron 146 - how to enable PowerNow!?

Have installed cpu driver from AMD's site. Dev Manager reports "AMD Processor Model Unknown", using AmdK8.sys version 1.2.3 as the driver.

powercfg.exe /query reports: "Processor Throttling Not Supported" (using Minimal Power Management in Power Options).

According to this link the Opteron 146 should have PowerNow! available.

Cool'n'Quiet is enabled in the bios (mobo= Asus A8N-E).

Not sure exactly where I'm going wrong.

Tried it, but

powercfg /query

strill reports that Proccessor Throttling is not supported

Supposedly, from what I've read via Google, it's the same. Hence you only have the option for Cool'n'Quiet even on mobos that support Opterons.

Use CPU-Z to see if throttling/enabled

i thought powernow = for athlon xp mobiles, coolnquiet = amd64 range all processors so try and look for the coolnquiet driver on amd's site.

PowerNow! is what AMD calls the power saving on Opterons as well. It's probably the same as Cool'n'Quiet, just with a more enterprise friendly name

I've verified in CPU-Z that the frequency stays fixed at 2500MHz. It is not using PowerNow! else it would step down to 800 MHz.

Wonder if it's because the mobo can't detect the CPU (AMD Processor Model Unknown).

I ask because I couldn't get Cool'n'Quiet working under MCE2005 but works fine in XP?.

its a desktop opteron though... same as an a64 so i would think its the a64 driver which is needed
