Opteron 146 or Athlon 3700?

well guys? I can get them at ABOUT the same price -+£10 so what should I go for?
are the 146s supported by all motherboards atm?

Probably the 3700. 11x multi. Will depend on stepping.
It should see it as an unknown processor if a bios update doesnt fix it.

I'd go for the opty. The extra multi is nice, but x10 is enough to max out the 146 and, all things being equal, the opty probably will clock higher.

If not overclocking the 3700 is 2.2 Ghz whereas the opty is 2ghz.

Id say 3700 SD either way. OCUKs recent stepping is supposed to be clocking great and theyre faster at stock

any other reccomendations for around that price?
thing is its for a freinds 'rents and their not gonna be able to maintain the system if its unstable/needs voltage changes often.
I'm trying to get the biggest performance for this system without having to worry about stability/cost.
its MAINLY going to be used for (FOLDING) internet etc, some photo editing etc, you know, older person things, no games unless we convince a 50 year old woman to play Quake 3

If I was planning on doing them things, I would get a X2 3800+. Good price right now aswell... £215.

Seen the 146 for £114 OEM plus a cheap cooler and it is better value.
