Opteron 146 - what thermal compound

Ok, got my opty 146, and I'm sticking a new heatsink on it. I need to remove whats left of the current compound and add some new stuff. So what compound is well recommended, and how much are you meant to put on exactly?

I've seen pictures with merrely a blob in the middle, and I've seen picture of people covering the whole thing.

So how much should I use and what are the good brands?

How about removing any current thermal compound? Go pro and get the proper stuff, or use me tin of lighter fluid instead?

I use medical wet wipes. Make sure they are nearly pure alcohol though, so that it doesn't leave any residue.
