Opteron 146

99% sure theres no difference. Anyone back me up on this?

Its usually a lot more to do with the stepping. When they first got released it was stay away from the CABGE's and grap your self a FPAW FOR FPMW

yea theres no difference i think its just cpu-z confusing opterons on the 939 socket for the 940 ones which are venus. the 939 ones are san diego.

both cores from a good stepping can give you upwards of 2.7ghz, and with good cooling up to 3ghz and beyond.

im runnin my 146 @ 3ghz on the stock cooling off a 4800x2, seems fine!
my stepping is cabye.0540 fpmw
as far as i am aware the most highly desirable single core opteron steppings are;
1; cabne 0539 and before.
2;cabye 0540 and after.
3;cab2e, all weeks are about the same on this one.

that is in order. a cab2e 3gig chip, i have never heard of anyone whose got one. there could be some out there though.

if you can get a cabne or cabye you stand a much better chance of a better overclock. hope this help ya!

i am gettin rid of my cabye...

mine isnt as good as the above two :D

venus and san diego are the same core....

mine is a cabye 0540 Fpaw and its running at 2.9ghz with 1.5v but wont do 3ghz :( stable no matter what i try.... mine is in a shuttle though so maybe the reason why.

the new 3700+'s are a good price at the moment :)

mine is a lame cacje 0602

Well I can safely say there have been plenty of Opty 146's that have done worse than yours. Personally my Opteron 144 needs Over 1.55V for 2.9Ghz.
