hi all,

I have a Opty 148 @ 2.6 ghz but i have just come in to possesion of a e7300 with a stock HSF and a cheapy intel board. I wonder would it be faster than my trusty Opty?

I was thinking of using it as a mini upgrade before i go for a PII or i7

Well i kind of want to know, as i am kind of thining of upgrading around the end of March. If its worth taking my old motherboard and cpu out and putting this in?

Oh...how do i work out if my memory is compatiable from my old setup??

Well first and foremost the opty is a single core, plus it's about 3ish years old now (I remember when I had my opty 144 loved that chip :D), so it'll be better for multitasking. Trust me the E7200 will beat the Opty by a country mile even if the opty is clocked to 3ghz+

Cheers for that Hamoodii its nice to know that from your experience of Opties...

From what i can get hold of...i can grab this E7300 2gb of ram and a dq965gf motherboard to replace my opty 148 DFI Lan Party UT Expert and 4gb of ram.

That should help me put off the big upgrade.

Why not 2GB RAM? It's cheap as chips these days :D

I've recently gone from a Opty 144 @ 3ghz to an E5200 @ 3.4ghz (only on the stock cooler at the mo) and the difference is massive. The only bench mark I've used is super pi and that's about twice as quick and it's only using one core.

It's hard to say because of the other hardware differences such as the mobo and RAM but upto 3-4 times faster.

You would make a fair bit by selling your old AMD stuff too :)

Is it still worth something you think? How much do you reckon id get for this lot...and where do you suggest selling.

Opteron 148 @ 2.7ghz Happily (2695.5mhz) with box and stock HSF
DFI Lan Party UT NF4 Expert (latest bios) with box and all the gubbins like manual
Thermal Take Cooler (Some huge thing.)
2 x 1GB G Skill ZX Memory pc3200
2 x 1GB Crucial pc3200

Any pennies recovered will help with the new build!! Perhaps i could sell the C2D and just get my new setup! :)

Wish overclockers.co.uk did a trade in as i bought this lot from them!

Well there is a Member's Market on here, but you don't qualify for it yet :(

The other place would be on the bay. I really don't know how much it would go for on ebay, but for the lot you might get anywhere between £60-80 at a guess.
