Opteron 165 confusing FSB results

I am really confused now,
i followed the overclocking guide to the letter but only could achieve 2.25Ghz on my opty (seeing as the stock is 1.8 i wasnt really disapointed, but reading a lot of reviews i found people were getting them to 2.6 and even 2.9 on a good stepping)
So i decided to get a little creative,
on the max fsb test my processor would fail at getting past 180, with the ram at 2.8 and vcore at 1.475 i could only get it to go as far as 282. So assumed that was the max FSB.
Now heres the wierd thing, i pushed the FSB up to 290 , now it passes the Super Pi test.
Is this normal? if so (going out to opty owners), what are you experiences past the traditional overclock's?

Thanks
Chronic

Isnt the starting point for the testing 200MHz?
Have you lower the HTT multiplier? and set the memory divider so that memory speed is below 200MHz?

hehe sorry above i meant 282 not 182

yep,
CPU/FSB multi to default (x9)
LDT/FSB to 3x
DRAM Freq: 100 (1/02)
CPU Vid: 1.475
DRAM Volt: 2.8

Try 290 HTT, x3 HT, a 266 divider and 1.4vcore. I never bothered finding my max HTT. I will next weekend when my missus is away ;)
What motherboard do you have? Also lock PCI busses to 100 and 33.3.
I have an ASUS A8N-E board and I have my 165 running at 2.6 24/7 :)

i have a DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D

I read somewhere that you needed 101 on the pci to lock it on a Lanparty? or am i misinformed?

I tried my best to keep the ram and fsb synchrous, hence the low speed.
Changed the divider to 166 and now im easily at 2.6Ghz,
will try some tweakage to get it to 183 when i have this stable

Edit:
Finally got round to running a 3dmark and i was pretty shocked at the results,

Clock speed: 2250 Mhz
HTT: 250
Multi: x9
CPU VID: 1.4
Memory on a 1/01 divider (200 mhz)
DRAM VID: 2.8

3d mark 06 score: 5876
SM 2.0: 2574
SM 3.0: 2472
CPU score: 1695

Clock speed: 2600 Mhz
HTT: 290
Multi: x9
Cpu VID: 1.475
Memory on a 5/06 divider (166Mhz)
DRAM VID: 2.8

3d mark 06 score: 5328
SM 2.0: 2581
SM 3.0: 2388
CPU score: 1181
