Opteron 165 overclocks

Viral said:
I am quite chuffed as I have managed to get 2.6Ghz out of my 165 now running at 1.45v.

Blah

She has passed 32MB PI and 2 hours on Prime, I would do longer but I need to use all this power.

Nice! I would have a better chance if I could use a PCIe motherboard, but hey, I'm happy at 285*9 for now. Problem is, I need to upgrade my nv6800NU to keep up with it. 7900GT going cheap anyone?

Mine is sitting at customs hopefully i will get it soon as my current 165 is gone and im back to single core :(

:D

Prime stable me thinks!

Now thats what i'm talking about! I've just finished putting my rad-box togther, it looks terrible but its quiet (have just tested the fans) but has no water in it yet.

I'll get that going by weds next week and then we will have some good clocking results for ya...

Agent.

i noticed that the 165's have disappeared from the OCUK website? any one know what the score is? maybe a batch of ccbbe0610's are abound

The 0610's have been around for over a month, Ive had mine 4 weeks and Ive seen more of them about than any other stepping since the 0550's. Dont think we will see many more. There are however the 0615's which are slowly emerging and have the same CCBBE stepping and seem to perform the same.

It was, but i had to format and lost your email address. So now im starting from stratch, which aint good. My opteron 146 seemed more powerful than this crap 165 thingy.I know i didnt get a great stepping, but i thought i would have got more out of it. And yep, i know its me, im not good at overclocking.Just need more powerrrrrrrrrrrr.

My email is in trust mate and what stepping did you get?

Just got my ccbbe 0610dpmw 904 batch in the UK.....
clocking stable it seems at 2970 mhz @ 1.45 volts, running nice and cool at 38 degrees load under watercooling, a nice chip for sure, needed a large ramping in voltage to get over 3 though, not one of the best of its stipping it seems, however, ffor £240.....

Have to agree with you, to get to 3Ghz you need 1.5v+ (unless your really lucky) but with these chips they remain really cool even with high voltage. :)

What's the deal with memory when overclocking these beasts? Do the DFI boards allow you to set the memory clock totally independently of the CPU clock or is it just a set range of multipliers? Would I be able to use my old PC3200 stuff?

yep, you can set whats called a divider, which slows down the memory at standard speeds, and then when you overclock the board, the memory speed raises back up again with the board...options are in Genie bios setttings/dram configuration for the expert dfi board ( 200,180,166 etc)

EG
setting 166, will allow ddr 400 memory to run up to 240 FSB
133 will allow ddr 400 up to 300FSB etc

Right so it is a set divider and you can't just fix the memory speed at 200 irrespective of the CPU speed?

What's the lowest divider out of interest? I presume the best bet would usually be a 3/2 CPU/RAM divider, i.e. 200/133 as you could then increase the FSB to 300 to give you a 2.7Ghz overclock with the mem running at 200. You could then try upping it a few Mhz at a time until either the CPU or memory give out. Is this the most common scenario with these 165s?
