I've just replaced my 3500+ on a rubbish MSI motherboard with an opteron 165 and an Asus A8N32 Deluxe. Running SuperPi, the 3500 did 1M in 45s, and the Opteron is slower (unclocked) at 49s.

Is this correct? Also, my temps under load at stock clock speeds are 49deg. I'm using an Arctic Pro 64.

I've bought some AS5, so will see if that makes any diff to temps.

Are the above normal speeds and temp readings?

Thanks!

Well the main difference here (and the reason its slower) is that the 3500+ @ stock runs at 2.2ghz whereas the Opty 165 @ stock runs at 1.8ghz.

Superpi is mostly about the clock speed (and is a single core app) so get that opty clocking and watch the time fall.

At stock the 165 will be slower in single threaded apps, crank it up to 2.8-3Ghz if you have a decent cooler and you can forget all about it being slow. It also has 1Mb of cache per core, the 3500+ only has 512Kb for its single core.

What about the temps? Should I be worried about those temps at stock speed? I intend to overclock, but wanted it steady first!

Ta!
