Hi,

ive just fitted an opteron 170 and clocked it to 2.52 as per the title. The temperature acording to speedfan is between 52C and 55C. I have an arctic cooling freezer pro fitted using arctic silver 5. The machine has been running 24/7 since sunday while running boinc with the setting run always activated and azureus all the time too. Are these temps OK? I keep thinking that maybe i didnt put enough thermal compound on although I followed the instructions.

is that the one for £125?

Is that full load temperature or idle? What voltage?

Do you happen to know the stepping code on the chip?

thanks for the reply

its the one in the thead above, I paid £90 for it. im not sure of the stepping, i fitted it without looking at it. Volts are around 1.4 as its in a asrock dual sata mobo. If windows task manager is the way to check load, then it appears to be runnning at 100%, all that is running on to computer is azureus, boinc and firefox at the moment. If it is at 100% then i suppose the temps are ok, every time i come to the computer the temperatures are aboout the same even after being left for hours.

Hi,

try using coretemp

I found speedfan unreliable....

However I have a 165 that is stable at 80C in coretemp... tbh have removed the IHS, can't really sell it so was pushing to destruction. hasn't broken yet.

Only posting this as I'm impressed at the stress this core will take without a hiccup.

opterons report '3' temps to me in everest, core temp and core 1 and 2

My core temps LOAD is 40c, core 1 at that time being 54c and core 2 61c

Core temps as 'is the norm' reported would be 40 for me, but as there server chips there fitted with per core temp monitoring, A64's dont have this

Is opty at 2.75ghz 1.52v

I think those temps are nothing to worry about, if a little on the warm side. My 170 is running about 55-56C (orthos stress test) and is at 2.75GHz on 1.35V (though I have the side off the case most of the time as the chipset gets too hot and the chipset fan makes a racket).

More case venitlation should drop the temps a bit.

thanks for the replies guys, i tried core temp abd it shows a couple of degress lower. Youve put my mind at rest now, thanks

Wouldn't worry! I have a 165 at 2.88ghz @ 1.39v and had to add another Akasa amber to my scythe ninja in a push/push layout to get the temps down. Knocked a couple of degrees off so was happy. Is running @ 51 degrees C under orthos load. Had a 3800+ X2 at 2.5ghz @ 1.4v and that baby would run @ 56 degrees C under load without a hitch! :)

I'd be concerned if you got close to 60 but at 55 i wouldn't worry!
