Hello,

Anyone know roughly how an Opteron 175 at stock speed would compare to an athlon 64 3700 Socket754 for single threaded tasks such as games?

Cheers.

As far as I can remember the Skt 754 3700+ ran at 2.4ghz with 1mb l2 cache. This would make it faster in single core apps than the Opty 175 running at 2.2ghz (stock).

True the s754 3700+ is 2.4GHz & 1MB L2 cache.
But the s939 3700+ is 2.2GHz & 1MB L2 cache.

Yet the s754 is either the same as or slower than the s939 in game tests.
The reason being, the s939 is a more efficient design & so to make up for the difference, for the s754, AMD had to increase their speed from 2.2 to 2.4 GHZ.

So in real world processing power a s754 3700+ = s939 3700+ (2.2GHz).

Thus even at stock on only single core games / apps the Opteron 175 is the same as a 3700+, but will be quicker in multi core apps / games.
