Opteron 175 vs Intel E2200

Both duals clock at 2.2ghz, but the E2200's newer Core2 architecture should have the edge. Some memory intensive apps may favour the Opteron though.

Might be worth checking Toms Hardware CPU chart. I would guess they would be similar at stock, maybe the Core 2 being a bit quicker though. The Intel would have much more OCing potential and would run cooler & therefore quieter also.

yup, the opteron would hit around 2.8-3ghz max on good air cooling where as the intel could achieve 3.4 maybe even 3.6ghz if its a good stepping on good air.

I would say the Intel would be best due to the newer architecture. I have had a E2180 to 3.6Ghz easily on a Gigabyte P31 DS3L.

If you don't already have a E2200 though or are paying full price for one, a E5200/5300 would be a far better cpu.

thanks for the info guys

considering selling my opteron, as they fetch over quite a lot on the bay

I went from a X2 3800 at 2.6GHZ to a E2180 at stock and even at stock the Intel was a lot faster in gaming and windows apps.

Once Oc'd a C2D just laughes at an older AMD X2 64.

Got decent money for my old AMD 64 kit and didn't really pay a lot for my C2D kit.
