anyone tell me would i notice any performance difference between my opty at 2ghz and my xp 2600 at 2ghz??????

been advised this opty has achieved 3 ghz on air, how will this compare to other processors out there. sorry to sound a bit dense but been a while since i upgraded hell i even have a ti 4200

Opty's normally have more L2 cache, so this gives it a performance edge. Also, they are like mobile chips in that they are made/picked from good bunch chips. This obviously greatly aids in overclockability

You going from Socket A (462) to Socket 939? Post up more details, especially the numbers off the chip like OPN (e.g. OSA856FAA5BM), etc

buying the opty from a very respected OCUK'er who has confirmed that he has had 3ghz off the chip on air


going to run in a asrock dual sata with either 2 gig of matched ram or 4 gig of ram depending on apps oh and replacing the ti4200 with an x800

doubtful that you will achieve 3 gig out of the chip in an asrock board though. optywill own your old xp...

and you will probably get a performance loss with 4 gig, two gig is is a much better choice. imo.

people have got 3ghz out of them on the board, really depends what sort of voltage it needs for 3ghz as the standard board is limited to 1.45v.
