Somewhere Fabulous...
Just a quick question here guys. I've recently changed my cpu to an Opty that is far more reliable and more overclockable than the old one. I was just wondering if i would see more performance running 1:1 with my memory, which i can to about 2.67Ghz, or would i see better returns running with a divider and higher cpu speed? I can get to at least 2.8 on a divider btw.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The higher CPU speed should win every time. You can run your memory with tighter timings on a divider.

But benchmark both settings if your unsure.

Unfortunately the mem i have doesn't like running at anything under C3, which it will do all the way up to just under 270FSB. So the divider and higher cpu speed would be better than the bandwith of 1:1?

I got the same dilemma than you and sitting at 267x10 for 2 months.

What is stopping me to get more speed on a divider with the opty is core temp which goes up to 56C with only 1.4v

I bought a lapping kit so I will have another go soon to keep temps down and try to reach about 2.9 ;)

Are you sure you need 1.4v to do 2.67GHz? I have the same stepping on my 170 and it does 2.8Ghz at 1.35v.
