Opteron v X2

Why do you say interesting?

It's a pointless review if you ask me...doesn't tell you anything you wouldn't guess for yourself TBH.

It's 200MHz slower, and this results in it's performance being somewhat less than the 3800+, however it's extra cache gives it a performance boost in applications that utilise it.

Why they didn't test it overclocked to the max I don't know - that would have been a worthwhile review.

Thanks for the link though :)

Hmm noticed a mistake in the Xbit review: (and I quote)

' This is one of the main features distinguishing our today’s hero from the Athlon 64 X2 with the lowest performance rating, which are based on a cut-down Manchester core for price-lowering purposes. '

My X2 3800+ runs the toledo core.

But other than that it is just showing what we already know. The Opty 165 is faster in apps that make use of the extra L2 cache but slower in apps that don't. It should overclock well but then so does the X2 3800+.

At the time I purchased my X2 there were no Opteron 165's available anywhere so they were out of the question. I am happy with it though. Running 2.4ghz on stock volts is pretty damn good. Should be able to get 2.8ghz out of it if I wanted too but this machine runs everything I want it too so I am not going to push it any more for now.
