Opteron246 Or E6300?

I am in a bit of a dilema. I want to get one of these but am unsure.

I am basically looking for a chip that will run games seamlessly alongside a Nvidia 7900GT.

Any Ideas?

well iirc for the opteron you will need a socket 940 motherboard, so personally and i tihnk most people will agree with me here in saying go with the core 2 duo 6300 it's a fantastic cpu, with bounds of overclocking potential many are acheiving the same clocks as the 6800 so in effect you are getting a 6800 for peanuts

Deffo go for the e6300, higher clocks, better performance, better community support

After reading up on a few reviews as well on the E6300 I am gonna get one of them.

The benchmarks are amazing. I'm looking forward to throwing 3dmark and a few others at it
