i remember back in the day Socket 939 Opterons were the number one choice of enthusiasts all over the place. was looking around recently on a certain auction site and noticed Opteron 1381 for socket AM3, are they worth any extra premium over Phenoms? do Opterons still get the best silicon these days or is that a thing of the past? just curious. ;)

Just had a look and there seems to be a 1389 chip at 2.9GHz with 75W TDP... Seems nice however the prices are a lot higher than the Phenom IIs.

there is 1381 chip (2.5Ghz i think) for £160. still decent amount more than Phenom X4, think they'll have cream of the crop silicon like the old ones did?

Lack of reviews of these chips. :-\ I would guess they're 'cherry picked' just as they always were, so you could say they're on better silicon I suppose.

as far as i can tell there are like no reviews that go into any sort of detail, so to be honest all we can do is guess..:(

they will be better chips which can run at a lower voltage, this is the reason for the higher pricing. To be honest, they are still not worth the price difference over phenom II
