I am currently running an OPTI 170 @ 2.8Ghz. It is rock steady at stock volts. Cooling it at present is a Zalman 9500led. Idle is 40C and full load both cores is 58c. This is my first dual core cpu so I am not used to these temps.

Can other 165/170 users post their speeds/temps and cooling methods please.

Matt

Opty 165 @ 2.7 1.55 Vcore

Big Typhoon - Idle/load 42/56
Big water SE - Idle/Load 39/52

Open case makes about -3c difference depending on room temp

Optys run hot m8, Aslong as it dont go over 60c load I wouldn't worry too much as how often are you gonna be running both cores at 100%? Bear in mind tho that temps will affect how far you can go with overclocking so if you want to go further I would get a good water cooling (not the bigwater I have as it aint much better than good air) or get a better cooler. A better cooler may drop temps a couple of degrees but if you aint gonna clock more I would stick with the one you have. Maybe increase the case vents/fans?

**edit**

I see your running stock volts...nice OC for stock volts that (1.35v?) if thats the case then maybe you should try re-seating your cooler with AS5 as those temps do appear a little hot for stock.

Thanks for the reply. The cooler is seated with AS5. I read the AS instructions on how to apply and did as directed. I then considered that a dual core CPU needs a larger area of AS5 so I removed the cooler and added some to the other areas of the IHS and reseated the cooler. Temps dropped a bit to where they are now. Yes 1.35v guess I've got a good chip.

I wonder if its worth removing the cooler cleaning and re applying AS5?

I have good case cooling with 2 x 120 ambers pull/push combo in my Eclipse 62 case.

Thanks again.

got my 170 at 2.7ghz at 1.39v. load temps are 38c on water. The thing im finding though is that the PWMIC area on my dfi ultra-d is getting much hotter with this dual core opty. at 2.7ghz its not a problem but when i go for 2.8ghz it need 1.48v and the PWMIC area starts to get really hot, around 67-70 degrees. When it reaches these temps its fails prime95 :(
Had a 146 before this a 2.9ghz at 1.55v and did have any problems with the PWMIC temps.
