Opti 170 on air

Same here mate but I needed a 0.5v bump to get it there. But I recokon I could knock it back down to 1.35 and not have any problems... Also i'm using some heavy air cooling. TT Big Typhoon with a YS-Tec 120mm fan which is massive (the 32mm deep one).

Also, Mattup, have you clocked your gfx card?

Agent, No not yet. Although the latest Cat 6.2 have improved my 3D marks by about 300 points. I am waiting for a 3rd party cooler for my 1900XTX before I wind it up a little.

Hav, no-no, a .5V bump... hehe. Actually. Yeah, only .05v, thanks for correcting...

And Mattup, thanks for that. Its interesting to see the difference between the X1900xtx's and the 7800GTX 512s. Seeming as we have an alomost identic setups its interesting...

With the stock cooler all seems fine at 2.7 GHz on my Opty 170. Temps reach 57 or so after a while at full load, so I don't want to try any higher until I get a better cooler - but using the stock heatsink and fan with the thermal pad provided, I think that's pretty impressive! At stock volts of course :-)

Heh, not bad buddeh!

I'd strongly recommend the TT Big Typhoon (again). It is just that good and that quiet! Plus it moves a lot of air around in your case...

Got it in one, its MENTAL BIG! Ha, its just so good at cooling its nutz! But it is a little loud.

Does My mobo temps dropped 2C when I dropped that monster in there! HA!

I have mine on a fan controller, normally turned down low and still shifts good amount of air, then when i need to test for possible heat issues it gets cranked up!!

Hmm, i'm getting more and more interested by one of these "Fan Controler" thingies.

How do they work?
Will they control a 4pin molex connecter?
Main benefits of having them?

Agent, just recieved an Akasa pro fan controller. It only takes 3 pin plugs but a bit of soldering soon fixed my molex fan problem.

They are basically variable resistors that drop the voltage to the fan. Therefore making the fan rotate slower and thus producing less noise. The Pro fan controller also monitors RPM and Temps through its own sensors. Your CPU fan only has 2 wires with no yellow speed signal so rpm will not display, but as you say you can hear the speed of the beast.

If your into *Air-Cooling* then a good fan controller is a must!

I had mine maybe or year or just longer, it is a VANTEC NEXUS NXP-205-SL

It has 4x 3-pin inputs and a set of extender cables that accept wither 3-pin or molex fans. The only thing extra I would have liked is the option to swith the fan *off* which this one doesn't have. . . also its nice and small, fits in a floppy bay.

Can't believe you need running your YS-Tech 120mm at full speed!!
