OptiBay (2 hard drives in macbook pro)

hi guys

well i am looking for a way to fit a second hard drive in to my macbook pro i will put one ssd in and one 500gb drive for storage

now i have seen something called an OptiBay to do this u take the cd drive out and put the hard drive there any one done this or can give me any info??

Yes you take the CD drive out.

Personally I'd just find a FW800 powered 2.5" casing tbh.
 
Easier said that done especially for SATA drives. Only one a I could find when a mate was looking was in the US. He imported one and it's since cooked itself twice and costs him a fortune to RMA it...
 
I've had a Lenovo X300 on test at work with an SSD. Samsung one IIRC.

Ignoring the power consumption debate of the last couple of weeks it's swings and roundabouts. Very quick with small files because the access time is virtually zero, but sustained data transfers are slower than a traditional hard drive. It's the fastest booting Windows XP machine I've seen and with only a 1.2GHz dual core CPU. £700 is silly for 64GB of storage however.
