Optic mice and mats

I found this odd at work.
I asked the IT dude for a mouse mat as I dont have one. He said I would need a white mouse mat for the optics as black mats dont work with them.

I thought that was odd cause I have a black one at home?!?!?!

Is he talking you know what......?

He fails. Both my G5 and DeathAdder work fine on my black IceMat.

the colour has nothing to do with it.

some do not like glass type surfaces or transparent surfaces but most still work with the likes of icemat etc.
